With the two-fold goals of connecting with young adults in a creative, contemporary fashion and contributing to reflective action for justice, the United States–Canada Province has developed a new mobile application. The My Call Me Back (CMB) app was inspired by the desire of Religious of the Sacred Heart to make known the mission and spirituality of the Society of the Sacred Heart through a digital platform. It is available now through the App Store and Google Play for ninety-nine cents.

Members of the United States-Canada Province learned on Tuesday, November 4, that the General Council of the Socieity of the Sacred Heart has asked Barbara Dawson, RSCJ, to accept another mandate as provincial of the United States–Canada Province.

At a recent meeting of the membership of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, the heads of school and board chairs unanimously approved the appointment of Ian Humphreys as the director of program planning for the Network. Ian currently serves at Convent of the Sacred Heart, 91st Street, and will complete the academic year there. He will begin his work for the Network and alongside the Conference for Sacred Heart Education in September of 2015.

Over 311,000 people gathered in New York City on September 21st to express their worry about the future of this planet that is our only home. For some it was the prospect of rising temperatures caused by carbon emissions that had them marching and carrying signs. For others it was the callous pollution of ground water by fracking operations. For others, it was the injustice suffered by the poorest and most vulnerable peoples on earth who are always the first to suffer from the profit seeking of corporations, nations and wealthy individuals. Tucked into the crowd, just in front of the Noah’s Ark float, were three RSCJ and several colleagues carrying a sign with the familiar Sacred Heart logo surrounded by the names of all the countries where RSCJ serve and the words “Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation.”

The connection between Religious of the Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau and St. John Berchmans is deep and time-tested and blessed.

On Sunday, August 17, several RSCJ attended the blessing of the new high altar relief in the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport, Louisiana. Earlier in the week, on August 13, the anniversary of the death of St. John Berchmans, Father Peter Mangum, of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport, and Father Felix Van Meerdergen, of Deist, Belgium, had celebrated Mass at the Shrine of St. John Berchmans in Grand Coteau.

When Duchesne Academy (Houston) Upper School Theology teacher and Campus Minister, Sara Hoegen was challenged by a friend to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, she promptly accepted. She also took the idea to her students and colleagues at Duchesne and after school on Friday, August 15, a small group gathered to watch as she and four others took the challenge and issued their own challenges.

On Saturday, August 9, we celebrated the opening of our new noviceship in Halifax with a Liturgy with Associates and Religious of the Sacred Heart. We are blessed to have one novice studying this year and a vibrant community of religious surrounding her to aid her on her journey. We thank God for the gift of Evelyn Oluoha. Joining her at the Sophie Community are Sisters Anne-Marie Conn, Donna Dolan, Mary Finlayson, Kim King, Sally Rude and Anne Wachter. What follows is the homily delivered by Sheila Hammond, RSCJ at the liturgy on Saturday.
